When I wake up
and see you asleep,
there is the stillness
of a certain calm,
and the silence
of doubt and
unspoken fears.
Broken by
a click of the thermostat,
old pipes that groan,
as the night deepens.
All I hear is the wind
escaping your lips—
a whisper of surrender,
a sigh of content.
The sound echoes in my heart
and hushes my mind.
So I lay down and
embrace you once again
in my dreams.
Then my snores awake you.
