Watch Me Entertain Myself!

Sacha Guitry once said, "You can pretend to be serious, but you can't pretend to be witty." Oh yes, I'm the great pretender.

It’s That Time Of The Year, Again

There’s this officemate of ours whose inspirational emails I almost always delete without even opening them; one look at the subject line and I hit the button. But for some weird reason I opened this latest one from her. I will not bore you by cut-and-pasting her email here; what I do want to quote (with some editing and tweaking on my part) is the following:

“Flowers, and romantic moments are only used and appear on the surface of the relationship. Under all this, the pillar of true love stands, one that lies in between the peace and dullness.

Love shows up in all forms; even in very small and cheeky forms. It has never been a model. It could be the dullest and most boring form… and that’s life. The happiest people in the world are not those who have no problems, but those who learn to live with things that are less than perfect.”

So do something different this February 14. Go home, put your feet up on the couch and watch “Mythbusters” while sipping Coke Light. Or have a pizza delivered to your office for dinner. Or read the final three chapters of that novel you’ve always wanted to finish but kept putting off for another time. Or play Text Twist. Or watch porn and jack off. Do the ordinary this Valentine’s Day, whether with someone special, with friends, or by yourself.

And if I see you contributing to the terrible traffic that night—whether rushing to some concert by local or foreign has-beens, or to a reserved table at some overpriced restaurant—then I’m going shove a real arrow right through your heart.

Have a Happy Valentine’s folks. Smiley face.

hahahaha. its really that time of the year again, when restaurants with unbelievable prices and concerts of ridiculous has beens and hallmark comes up with all the cheesy quotes.

i used to think of valentines as space filler invented for february---between the celebrations of new year and the graduarions of march and easter/summer amd fiestas of april and may.

then again like it or not--throughout all the jaded thoughts of that day---if we had the chance to celebrate it with someone---we'd try and do so,,,even just once---for the sake of.

advanced happy valentine's day to everyone.

devil's advocate:
but there's also something to be said for braving traffic, paying an arm and a leg for dinner, concert/movie, motel/hotel room.

first word that comes to my mind is stupid; but faith and human also comes to mind. escape isnt far-fetched either.

there will always be believers in the all-out valentines and there are some who believe in the real-life v-day. but hey we're all entitled to our own versions of love :)

off-topic: the new address (and hopefully final)

Heypi Balentayms! Masaya mag-celebrate nito pag mag-isa ka lang. LESS GASTOS! :)

Traditionally, we don't celebrate V-day on February 14. Baka kasi mahalata ng mga tao na couple kami. Hehe.

@MISTERHUBS: Di ba mas masaya yun? Celebrate it any day you want... even every day, if you have the time and the money. (Oops, lalong mahahalata na couple pala kayo pag every day, hehehe.)

My hubby is not a believer of holidays/birthdays/anniversaries. There's no expectations; therefore, no disappointments. I've come to live with it. Everyday should be Valentine's Day.
On Feb 14, even if I am coupled, I'd think of you Joel and celebrate Singles Awareness Day (SAD). lol

dear joel,

bakit wala pa rin kayong podcast or fabcast? hehehe, tagal na eh. malapit pa mandin ang valentines' day. isa yang topic na, well, para sa mga wala pang pinipintuho eh masarap marinig at mapag-usapan kahit na minsan eh, nagdadala ng kurot sa puso o isang matinding lukso ng saya. (KAHIT MEDYO PALASAK NA SA AIRWAVES, cute pa rin mapakinggan kahit papaano)

come to think about it... one reads a lot of things written about valentines by plu's (ma-angst man o sumobra sa tamis) BUT never heard about it in a spontaneous, free-flowing conversation. hmmm...

why not have a podcast about how well... plu's view valentines etc.?
alam ko, korni, baduy, over-wrought etc... but hey, tell me, when was the last time you actually heard a discussion about it from the viewpoint of gay men, for everyone to hear? ako eh... wala pa.

yun lang.

@PALMA: Medyo busy kasi ang mga utaw eh, sa trabaho, sa bahay, sa bathhouse... ay, ikaw pala ang nakaaalam kung sinong busy doon, HAHAHA!

Seriously, I'll tell the others your suggested topic. =)
