Watch Me Entertain Myself!

Sacha Guitry once said, "You can pretend to be serious, but you can't pretend to be witty." Oh yes, I'm the great pretender.

Dialogue

Leigh and I were having dinner at the al fresco area of Greenbelt 3. For some reason the area was full of people, like it was a weekend.

Leigh: Look! Is that a gay couple?
Me: (turns around to look) Yup, I think so.

A few minutes later…

Leigh: Oh, another gay couple!
Me: Uh-huh.

As we were finishing our meal…

Leigh: There seems to be many gay couples out tonight.
Me: Leigh, this is Greenbelt. They feel safe here.

While smoking cigarettes after dinner…

Me: Oh, another gay couple. (slight pause) Damn them all.
Leigh: And that’s the quote for tonight!

AJ: Talaga, ang dami na nila, hapon pa lang? Kami naman nandodoon nung gabi. Hmmm, weird. What was yesterday ba, National Gay Couples Outing Day?

How young were these couples? Coupling seems to be more "in" among younger gays these days. Bakit kaya? Is it because they're exposed to less homophobia ngayon, ergo less internalized homophobia for them, which had made--and continues to make--it difficult for gay people our, uhm, age, to really give coupling a go?

Uhm, oo nga pala, I'm running my mouth again when I had asked a question. So how young were these couples?

AMATEUR MISANTHROPE: They were in their 20s, I guess. One couple looked older, maybe in their early 30s or so. But while, like you, I suspect "age" has something to do with it, I also think that the venue--and the social status that goes along with it--has an effect too. For example, if it were in Cubao or Malate, I wonder what kind of couplings I'd see--or not see--there. Will they be more open or discreet? Will there be less couplings there?

Hmm... if this "trend"--if there is one--continues with the younger generation, maybe in a few years or so, we'll really have a push for, dare i say it, a domestic partnership bill at least? sana maunahan natin ang taiwan. (hindi ako updated- meron na ba ang taiwan?)

Some of them were probably thinking the same thing about you and Leigh: Damn in hell that couple! Unless Leigh's a girl, of course

jedd,

Leigh is a girl. Funny about two years ago...when I first saw a "blurred photo" of Leigh..with long hair...I thought she was a he... very much some pinoy country singers like Florante or Leigh Valera.

How are you Joel?

Randy

JEDD: Leigh is very much a girl and, especially after giving birth to her son, now doesn't look like a pinoy folk singer.
